Community Guidelines

ThingsPeopleMake.com is an online community filled with fellow makers and potential buyers willing to help you out, offer advice, and push you forward.

Here are the guidelines that keep our community great!

  • Make it! Any Thing you put on the site should be something you made. We understand that the line can get blurry when it comes to making, modifying, and re-purposing things. As a member of ThingsPeopleMake.com, keep the following in mind:
    • Things should be yours.
    • Things should be original, creative, innovative.
    • Things should be significantly different if you modified, re-purposed, appropriated or subverted them.
    • Things should be created in the spirit of making, not to game the system.
    • Things should be created with sincerity, suffused with your time and heart and caring.
Your fellow makers will decide if they feel something is sufficiently "made." So rather than follow the letter of the law, follow the spirit of the site, and you'll be fine.
  • Flag it! Think of our flagging system like an immune system. When you flag a Thing that isn't a good fit for ThingsPeopleMake.com, you're keeping the community healthy, happy, and whole. Flagging and comments are seen only by our site's administration, so your thoughts are safe with us.
  • Be a show-off! Now is your time to shine. Share your latest daydream or project idea. Upload photos, sketches, or doodles. Don't worry about perfectly polished pieces. This is your chance to get valuable feedback!
  • Talk to Your Neighbors. Get to know others in the community by asking for feedback and helping others out. The more you participate, the better chance you have of building some great relationships and getting expert advice that will help you along the way.
  • Say "Thank You!" The people who invest in your ideas with their comments and feedback are very likely your first customers. Make sure to thank them for their valuable input.
  • Brag. Share links to your projects on your blog, Facebook, Twitter and more. Making the world you want to live in is not for the faint of heart. Tell people what you're up to!
  • Be Honest. See something you like? Rather than copy it exactly, figure out how you can improve on it with your own creative inspiration.
  • Keep It Clean. Offensive or illegal content will be removed. That's the long and the short of it.
  • Play Nice. Things People Make is designed around constructive criticism and feedback—not negativity or insults. Just follow the Golden Rule, and things should go swimmingly!
